On July 11th, 2009 a report of a multi-vehicle accident
involving two passenger vehicles was dispatched to Station
1. Squads 1 & 2, Rescue 1 , and Battalion 1 responded
to the scene of the accident. Three patients were
transported to NWMC for additional medical care.
It's
fortunate that airbags deployed and the side impact to the
second vehicle was located behind the passenger compartment. A second sooner and it may have ended with a different
patient outcome, although the two patients seating in the
rear of this vehicle were treated for life-threatening
injuries. You'll note the damage to the
white vehicle seems minimal - with the axle and frame
absorbing the energy of the impact. Additional damage
occurred while attempting to free the passenger from the
vehicle through means of extrication.
