Vehicle Extrication Training 7-24-08

Smitty's Repair Shop at Dartmoor Road and Spanker Creek Road had donated several vehicles of all types to the Bella Vista Fire Department to use for training in vehicle extrication. This is a training opportunity that doesn't come along very often. The members of the Bella Vista Fire Department would like to thank Smitty's Repair Shop for the donation and opportunity of having this vehicle to train and practice on.

Firefighters are using the Hurst Tool to remove a door from this car. This tool can also be used for a number of other tasks.

The picture on the left is another view of the Hurst Tool being used to remove a door. This tool can also be used to cut metal. Note the cutting teeth just to the right of this firefighter left hand.

This show another of the Hurst Tool we call the cutter. It is being used to cut a relief cut in the top of the car. The front and side posts will be cut and the top of the car can be folded back to gain access to a patient if needed.

We also have other ways to cut. On the left is an air chisel that we can power using an air system on the rescue truck or by using self contained breathing apparatus cylinder that are normally used for structural fire fighting.

On the right is a K-12 Tool which can be used to cut metal and by changing the blades can be used for gaining access to a structure or ventilating roofs to remove smoke during structure fires.

Again, the Bella Vista Fire Department would like to thank Steve Smith of Smitty's for donating these vehicles and allowing us to increase our skills and knowledge when it comes to vehicle extrication.
