BBQ Safety

Winter is over and our thoughts are turning to spring and summer. It is time to prepare our homes for the upcoming season.

The Bella Vista Fire Department suggests the following hints:

When you bring your barbecue out of storage be sure to give it a thorough cleaning.

Before starting make sure the venturi (the pipes leading up to the burners) are clean and free of obstructions.

Use a pipe cleaner to clean any cobwebs or spiders that might be inside.

Make sure that the hose connections are secure by testing with a soap and water solution. If bubbles appear or become larger, disconnect and tighten again.

Check your cylinder, if over 10 years old or damaged take to a refilling station for disposal and purchase a new cylinder.

If your cylinder is corroded, clean with a wire brush and repaint with a light colored paint. Dark colors absorb heat and thus cause excess pressure to build-up in the tank.
