A burn from the steam of a boiling kettle or accidentally
touching a hot pot is something that most of us have
experienced at least once in our life. To reduce this risk
and other such accidents the Bella Vista Fire Department
suggests the following safety hints:
When removing a lid or
cellophane from a container, remember to open it away from
yourself. This will reduce the risk of being burned by the
steam.
If heating food for children
in the microwave or on the stove always check it first to
ensure it is not too hot.
Where possible, keep pots to
the rear of the stove, reducing the chance of young children
touching or knocking the pot over and being burned.
Never allow children to play
near the stove or microwave. This will reduce the risk of
being burned if something were to spill.
Always use pot holders or
oven mitts when handling hot foods or removing items from
the oven.
