Carbon Monoxide is an
invisible, odorless, colorless and tasteless gas that can be
deadly. Carbon Monoxide (co) is produced from the incomplete
burning of fuel. Sources of carbon monoxide include the
furnace, wood burning, fuel-fired appliances, water heaters
and vehicles.
The Bella Vista Fire
Department suggest the following safety tips to reduce the
chance of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Have a qualified service
technician regularly check and maintain your furnace, water
heater and fireplace.
Have your chimney inspected
annually to ensure there are no defects.
Make sure that the chimney
fuel and external openings of all exhaust vents are not
blocked by insulation, leaves, bird nests or debris.
Never leave your car running
in the garage for even a minute. Once you start the car pull
it outside to run and warm up.
BBQs should never be
operated indoors.
Keep the area around the
fuel-fired equipment free of storage that could reduce the
airflow. This ensures adequate airflow for the appliance to
function properly.
